Welcome to HorizonHorology

In the midst of an outbreak of a global virus, what better time to embark on a new venture? The HorizonHorology site is born!

So as we know it, we are all enduring a lockdown for what seems at the moment a fairly serious outbreak of a virus that could change the way we live our daily lives. On a less depressing note however, this has given me a good opportunity to start something I have wanted to do for quite sometime. Let me first introduce myself and my reason for starting this website.

A little bit about me...

I grew up in the UK before recently moving to Portugal on a permanent basis, I was fortunate enough to be able to also work full time here with the airline I currently operate for. Portugal is a fantastic country with so much to offer, coupled with a great quality of life and climate to match, it just seemed like the right thing to do, and so far I have not thought once about moving back to the UK.

I have always had a great passion and ambition to one day work in aviation, after studying Air Transport Management at university in London and forever holding onto this idea, in 2017 I was finally rewarded with my first job as an airline pilot for a large European carrier.

So, where do the watches come in?

My late grandfather wore a reference 16800 Rolex Submariner, I have memories as a child being confused as to why his watch had a smooth sweeping secondhand. Im sure at the time I didn't come across as particularly interested, however that memory still lives with me today and it wasn't forgotten.

A decade or so down the line I was introduced to another Rolex timepiece, this time it was while flying, after thinking sometime about it and these memories coming back I had decided that I wanted to investigate the world of horology further. Reading over the history of Rolex and PanAm airlines you can kind of see how it all happened! Now a few years later, lighter wallet and a stronger knowledge and passion for timepieces, I have decided to document my journey though time.

Current situation

So, currently and to keep you here, my plans going forward are to document and review modern day and vintage watches that span across the wide variety this industry has to offer. Im a complete novice when it comes to building websites as well as photography, however this is something Im really keen to develop! My next post will most likely be discussing my current watch collection and where I think it will head next. Thanks for visiting and in the meantime feel free to view my instagram page HorizonHorology
